"Is there anything i should do before my tattoo?"
Before your appointment, taking care of your body helps your tattoo heal better and makes the process smoother. There are a lot of don'ts, but I promise to make it worth it.
Make sure you're well rested, hydrated with plenty of water, and have eaten a solid meal beforehand. Keep your skin clean, and moisturized. Don't worry about shaving just to avoid any razor burn prior to your appointment. Avoid any heavy outdoor activity or use sun screen to prevent sunburn or irritation in the area of being tattooed and Please don't drink alcohol 24 hours before your appointment. Showing up prepared means we can focus solely on creating the best piece for you.
After Care Info
Proper aftercare is the key to keeping your tattoo looking bold, clean, and long-lasting. I will always go over aftercare, because often artists have different instructions on how to go about it.Â
My preferred method of wrapping your finished tattoo is going to be Saniderm. (also known as tegaderm, or dermashield). Leave the Saniderm on for 3-5 days. If you got a larger piece done, you may experience ink pooling, or bubbles of ink in the bandage. This is normal and do not pop it. If it had become larger than a quarter, go ahead and take it off and proceed to the next steps. If you experience irritation and itchy areas, this is also normal. Do NOT scratch your tattoo.Â
Once you take your saniderm off (i recommend doing it in the shower), you will wash Gently with your fragrance free soap. Use luke warm water and do not scrub with sponges, rags or loofas. Avoid letting the stream of your shower hit your fresh tattoo. Now it's all clean! Pat it dry with a clean towel, rag, or paper towel. Before applying your ointment, I think it's best to let it air dry for at least 5-10 minutes and then apply a thin layer of your ointment all over your tattoo. Do this about 2-3 times a day.
Now of course the healing time depends on the person, but for roughly 2 weeks to a month after you have your fresh ink, avoid these things. It's just another step to get you the best outcome long-term. NO baths, pools, hot tubs or soaking the area of any kind. Keep out of direct sunlight. Scabbing is normal, do not pick or scratch at it. This can cause a patchy heal. One last thing, try to avoid tight clothing. This can cause friction in the area and is pretty much the same as picking at it yourself. Dress comfy, stay hydrated, keep it clean and moisturized, and let your body do the rest!
